the most successful advertising, public relations,
printing and publishing companies are based or have major

THOMA, founder and president of Primary Source,
supervises management, creative and business
functions from the Orlando command center. Joe has 26
years' experience in corporate and
institutional publishing as well as mainstream journalism,
both on the editorial and business/management sides.
He
has helped nonprofits, public corporations and private
firms start, build and refine their
communications programs. He has hired and trained stellar
editorial staffs; edited books, magazines and daily
newspapers; and effected revenue-maximizing business
practices at large and small publishers. Before focusing
on Primary Source, Joe was a longtime editor at Scripps
Howard newspapers in South Florida. As editor and
manager of the Treasure Coast Business Journal and 50-Plus
Lifestyles, he established turn-around policies that
led those publications from marginality to profitability. At various
other publications, he has filled assignments as business
editor, lifestyles
editor, bureau chief and assistant city editor.
Joe brings his expertise in media management and professional
development to the classroom through lectures and
seminars, including serving as group leader at the
American Press Institute's Business Editors Seminar,
Reston, Va.; Team Leader for editors at week-long
"Newsroom Computers and Computer Research"
course at the Poynter Institute of Media Studies, St.
Petersburg, Fla.; and consultant in media training for
dozens of nonprofits, associations and for-profit corporations.
Professional recognition
includes regional and national awards for design, editing,
news
coverage, team journalism and "Total Quality
Management."
Joe
is a member of the Public Relations Society of America,
The Advertising Federation, International Association of
Business Communicators, Society of American Business
Editors and Writers, Florida Association of Realtors,
National Association of Realtors, Religion Communicators
Council, Episcopal Communicators, Associated Church Press
and Mensa. He is a former Registered Investment Advisor
with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Joe
has a bachelor's degree in history from Rutgers
University, a master’s in political science from Duke
University, and a Graduate Certificate in Financial
Planning from Florida Institute of Technology.
