PRIMARY SOURCE PRESS founder
Joe Thoma
works with a network of printers, designers, editors, writers and project managers including:
  • Designers from Orlando, New York, North Carolina and abroad;
  • Advertising agencies nationwide;
  • Local, national and worldwide wordsmiths;
  • The best printers in Florida (one of the least expensive, most competitive "printing states"), cross-country printers who will drop ship your job, and Canadian and overseas printers who specialize in high-volume, low-cost work while maintaining the highest quality.

We deal with the best vendor "fit" for each job. Our geographical home is Central Florida, where some of the most successful advertising, public relations, printing and publishing companies are based or have major branches.

JOE THOMA, founder and president of Primary Source, supervises management, creative and business functions from the Orlando command center. Joe has 26 years' experience in corporate and institutional publishing as well as mainstream journalism, both on the editorial and business/management sides.

He has helped nonprofits, public corporations and private firms start, build and refine their communications programs. He has hired and trained stellar editorial staffs; edited books, magazines and daily newspapers; and effected revenue-maximizing business practices at large and small publishers. Before focusing on Primary Source, Joe was a longtime editor at Scripps Howard newspapers in South Florida. As editor and manager of the Treasure Coast Business Journal and 50-Plus Lifestyles, he established turn-around policies that led those publications from marginality to profitability. At various other publications, he has filled assignments as business editor, lifestyles editor, bureau chief and assistant city editor.

Joe brings his expertise in media management and professional development to the classroom through lectures and seminars, including serving as group leader at the American Press Institute's Business Editors Seminar, Reston, Va.; Team Leader for editors at week-long "Newsroom Computers and Computer Research" course at the Poynter Institute of Media Studies, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and consultant in media training for dozens of nonprofits, associations and for-profit corporations.

Professional recognition includes regional and national awards for design, editing, news coverage, team journalism and "Total Quality Management."

Joe is a member of the Public Relations Society of America, The Advertising Federation, International Association of Business Communicators, Society of American Business Editors and Writers, Florida Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Religion Communicators Council, Episcopal Communicators, Associated Church Press and Mensa. He is a former Registered Investment Advisor with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Joe has a bachelor's degree in history from Rutgers University, a master’s in political science from Duke University, and a Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning from Florida Institute of Technology.
